Barnes and Noble has created a mobile platform and physical space to connect young readers. With The Next Chapter, boys will be able to start discussions about the books they have read, recommend other books, and meet fellow app members safely at designated Barnes and Noble locations.
In this safe environment, children can meet to talk about the books they have read. This creates a positive atmosphere centered around books, where boys can talk about books without being judged or feeling self-conscious. Chapter meetings will be led by male Barnes & Noble employees who are college education majors, have completed training and child-safe screening, and are avid readers and role models.
This app would be geared toward young readers. Through the use of the rewards system and meeting accomplishments or goals, the young boys will look at reading as a more positive activity. Created by nationally known educators using evidence-based game theory, the app rewards readers using achievable goals that are customized by reading level.
